The third General Assembly of the FOOD FOREST project took place in Tallinn, Estonia, on 2–3 September 2026. Partners from Estonia, Italy, Portugal and Spain came together to review progress, exchange experiences and plan the remaining work ahead of the project’s conclusion in February 2027.

Sharing knowledge and planning the next steps

Discussions covered the development of community food forests, including their business models and governance.

Fernando Borges and Érica Valente Lopes, researchers at the University of Coimbra’s Institute for Legal Research, presented their legislative analysis of forests and agriculture, alongside a glossary of terms associated with the project. Their contribution provided a legal perspective for discussions about the future development of food forests.

Learning from Tallinn’s community initiatives

On the first day, partners visited the Tallinn Community Food Forest and local community gardens. The visits offered an opportunity to explore local initiatives and exchange experiences of community participation in food growing.

On the second day, partners remaining in Tallinn joined the Estonian team for practical activities at the Community Food Forest. Soil preparation and planting brought the project’s ideas into practice through shared work on the ground.

The two-day gathering connected research, planning and practical experience, with the Estonian team hosting partners and supporting collaboration across the consortium.
